Marshalls and Sweepers

Marshalls and sweepers have given up their time to help out at this event, some marshalls/sweepers their full weekend. Marshalling/sweeping is a long tiring job and marshalling an ultra event is, well, ultra long and tiring but in its way very rewarding, helping you guys achieve your goals. So if you are feeling a bit grumpy, hide it, be pleasant and thank the marshalls. Yes you are still capable of this after 100 miles! Any bad treatment, abusive language etc, given to a Marshall will result in that competitor being disqualified from the race.

Navigation

A map must be carried throughout the race even if you have a GPS. Navigation isn't a major factor on the Hardmoors compared to an OMM or a LAMM but there are one or two areas that can be slightly confusing so please take note.

Rules and regulations

These can be found on this website, but I would like to bring up to your attention the following.

Litter and noise

As ultra runners the majority of us have a great deal of respect for our surroundings. So please live up to our values and do not drop litter and please be quiet while passing through communities at night.

Stick to the race route

As well as the declared checkpoints there will also be several undisclosed checkpoints, if you stick to the route and DO NOT TAKE SHORTCUTS you will stumble across these CPs. If you miss any of these checkpoints then you will be disqualified.

Shut all gates

When you pass through a gate YOU MUST CLOSE IT!!

Marshall / Race control

What ever the Marshall/Race control says is final! If at a checkpoint a marshall or Race Control informs you that you should not continue for whatever reason, THEN YOU DO NOT CONTINUE!! If you arrive at a checkpoint after the checkpoint has closed, then you have timed out and your race is over!

Runswick Bay

In event of the tide being in at Runswick Bay, you MUST wait with (or near to) the checkpoint marshall, until he allows you to proceed. The marshall's word is final, if you continue without the marshall's say, you will be disqualified. The time you have waited for the tide to go out and the path safe to cross, will be recorded and subtracted from your finish time.

FOOD (At Checkpoints and Race Finish)

Various Checkpoints along the Hardmoors 160 route will provide basic food (those checkpoints are listed above) Checkpoint food will be packaged version of flapjacks and possibly haribo jelly babies etc to complement your own stores.   Nearer the time a checkpoint food list will be available here

Unlike in previous years we cannot provide our usual checkpoint banquets and can only provide very basic snacks, bottles of water and possibly the odd hot drinks at checkpoint which we have camper vans. No Pizza I'm afraid :o(

Also at race finish we will not be providing food as in previous years. As well as we won't have access to a kitchen or an indoor venue/hall, we are very limited to what we can provide by COVID -19 Government rules and regulations.

RACE FINISH

Race finish will be located on the Helmsley Sports and recreation field, timekeepers will be situated in a gazebo,  located at the finish. There will be no indoor finish or access to  indoor facilities this year due to COVID - 19 Government Guidelines. Once you have finished you will pick up your race t-shirt and medal which will be bagged up ready for you to collect from a table situated in a secondary gazebo. After you have done so please then head for your support vehicle, car, accommodation etc  (COVID - 19 Regulations)

SUPPORT TEAMS will be able to pick their runner up from the race finish using the Helmsley Sports Club Carpark, but must not be longer than 20 minutes in the carpark as we only have 2 places for support crew vehicles at any one time.

  • You may transfer your place to another runner up to 3 weeks prior to the event. This is done yourself via the SI entries system. NB: This may not be appropriate on the longer ultras as these do not fill up and there may not be another runner who is trained up, so bear this in mind.
  • You may transfer your place to the following year’s event. Please email us to let us know if you wish this to happen
  • You may not transfer to another race within the same year
  • All entries close 3 weeks prior to the event because we need to order t shirts, medals and trophies in advance. Also, we need to give your medical information to our medical officer.
  • Refund Protect

Refund Protect is offered to participants during the online check out process, allowing you to opt-in to an enhanced set of cancellation and refund terms and conditions. It chosen, Refund Protect allows you to claim a 100% refund (including all extra fees and charges) if you are unable to attend the event due to unforeseen circumstances. You can claim a refund right up to the time of the event commencing. You will be charged an extra 7.5 % on top of your normal payment.

Refund Protect will be the administrator of the programme and underwrite the risk of anyone applying for a refund, all through Tokio Marine HCC, an A+ rated Insurance Provider.

Participants seeking a refund would complete a simple, pre-populated online form. Refund Protect will handle all refund applications within 48 hours and will refund you directly.
