The Hardmoors 60 is a 63 mile race on the coast from Guisborough to Filey. The route of the 63 mile race follows the second half of the Hardmoors 110, along the beautiful Cleveland Coast, through Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar, Scarborough and into the finish location, the seaside resort of Filey.

Competitors will have 18 hours to complete the course.

We do not give refunds for cancellations.

In the event of you being unable to take part, you may transfer your place to another competitor via SI entries up to three weeks prior to the event provided the event is full. You do this yourself via SI entries.

You may defer your place to the following year (one time only) and you need to email us to do this. This option is only available up to three weeks prior to the event

A temporary Cleveland Way Diversion is in place which will affect the 2021/2022/2023 Hardmoors 60 route. Please print off and carry the below map

The Hardmoors 60 will be run on the 21st September 2024. The Hardmoors 60 route follows the Cleveland Way from Guisborough to Filey passing through coastal resorts and fishing villages such as Saltburn, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar, Scarborough and Filey while following cliff tops for the main duration of the race. Competitors will have 18 hours to complete the 62 miles.


Registration and start

The Race will commence at 8am on Saturday 21st September at Guisborough Rugby Club. There will be a coach service available for any runners who want to park their vehicles in Filey and be transported up to the race start at Guisborough (£22.50)

Food and drinks

Each competitor is allowed 2 non-returnable drop bags (food etc). There will be water available at every manned checkpoint and food at various other Checkpoints.

Tide at Runswick Bay

In event of the tide being in at Runswick Bay, you must wait with the (or near) to the checkpoint marshall, until he allows you to proceed. The marshalls word is final, if you continue without the marshalls say, you will be disqualified. The time you have waited for the tide to go out, and the path safe to cross, will be recorded and subtracted from your finish time.

Tide at Scarborough

In event of the tide being in at Scarborough, you may be diverted on another route (will be marked/signed on the day). The marshalls word is final, if you continue without the marshalls say so, you will be disqualified.

Tracker

Included in your race entry is a Tracker. A tracker will give out your location at any time online. A huge bonus for safety reasons and also handy for your crew (if you have one) to detect where you are on the route and when to 'brew up' ready for your arrival.

The Trackers will be available for collection at the race registration (your name will be associated to an individual tracker)  It will be attached to your race vest for you. (If you lose a tracker you will be charged for a replacement tracker.) A couple of days before the event you will receive an email with a link to the tracker (plus it will be available on the Hardmoors Website) so you can pass the link onto friends/family/ Facebook etc, so people can watch your progress throughout the event.

Transportation

(for all runners who booked a place on the coach)
The coach from Filey to Guisborough will depart from West Avenue Car Park YO14 9BE http://www.scarborough.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=15770 at 06.00  Saturday morning
Please note the coach will depart at this time so you need to be there at the latest for 05.50, if you arrive after 06.00  the coach will have left!

There will be a kit check at the start of the race.

Please bring with you all your mandatory kit and your drop bags.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ALL THE MANDATORY KIT, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN!!

Drop Bags

Competitors are allowed 2 non-returnable drop bags, drop bags can be used for food, gels etc. Or socks, change of base layer etc, but remember Drop Bags are NON-RETURNABLE so any items you leave behind after opening your drop bags will be disposed of. Please fasten your drop bags up securely and write your name somewhere prominent on the bag plus either Drop Bag 1 or Drop Bag 2 underneath your name.

DROP BAGS MUST BE KEPT TO THE SIZE OF A SUPERMARKET CARRIER BAG OR SMALLER. HOLDALLS, BACKPACKS ETC WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! REMEMBER THESE ARE NON RETURNABLE! EVERY YEAR WE GET THE ODD PERSON BRINGING A HUGE RUCKSACK WITH A WEEKS WORTH OF FOOD IN THE BAG. THIS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. LABEL THE DROP BAG WITH YOUR FULL NAME AND WHAT CHECKPOINT IT NEEDS TO GO TO IE DROP BAG 1 OR DROP BAG 2. STICKERS DROP OFF, IF YOU USE A STICKER, TAPE IT ON WITH SELLOTAPE. IF LABELS/STICKERS DROP OFF WE HAVE NO IDEA WHO THE DROP BAG BELONGS TO AND WHERE IT NEEDS TO GO. BEST OPTION IS CLEAR FREEZER BAGS SELLOTAPED DOWN, YOU CAN THEN PUT YOUR DETAILS ON A PIECE OF PAPER INSIDE THE DROPBAG

We have space for any items which may have been brought on the bus, i.e. warmwear, change of clothes, etc (no valuables, car keys/wallets).
Please place all these in a labelled bag and these will be taken to the race finish at Filey.

  • Checkpoint 5  -Horn Blower Lodge will have water only (32 miles)
  • Checkpoint 6 - Ravenscar will have hot drinks & food water and coke (40 miles)
  • Checkpoint 7 - Scarborough will have water, food and coke (53 miles)

Retirees

- Pulling out of the race during the event

If you time out or retire and are unsupported please contact any of the contact numbers on your race number and we will arrange transportation to the race finish. Please note this may take awhile and you may have to wait until the checkpoint you are at closes.

If you decide to drop out of the event due to injury or for any other reason please if possible make your way to the next checkpoint, unless close to the last checkpoint (could be the last checkpoint you visited may of closed before you manage to return to it) If injured and cannot continue and are between checkpoints again contact any of the numbers on your race number and we will pick you up.

If you decide you dont want to wait to return back to Filey then there is regular bus service between Middlesborough and Scarborough

Rules

  1. Runners have 18 hours to complete the Hardmoors 60 Race. Starting at Guisborough and finishing at Filey. You must pass through ALL the checkpoints within the stated time limits.
  2. Checks will be made at registration and you will not be permitted to compete without the mandatory items.
  3. Any runner who is (in the opinion of the race directors, marshals or medics) unfit to continue will be withdrawn from the race. THEIR DECISION IS FINAL.
  4. You must log in with the Marshals at each checkpoint.
  5. You must notify a race marshal at the first instance if you decide to retire from the race. Once you retire from the race your race number must be surrendered and you will not be allowed to continue.
  6. In bad weather all runners may have to partner up at any stage at the discretion of the Race Directors.
  7. In event of the tide being in at Runswick Bay, you must wait with the (or near) to the checkpoint marshall, until he allows you to proceed. The Marshalls word is final, if you continue without the Marshalls say, you will be disqualified. The time you have waited for the tide to go out, and the path safe to cross, will be recorded and subtracted from your finish time.
  8. In event of the tide being in at Scarborough Spa, you may be diverted onto another route (will be marked/signed on the day) by the checkpoint marshall. The Marshalls word is final, if you continue without the Marshalls say, you will be disqualified. 
  9. You must carry ALL items marked as mandatory from the equipment list (below) for the duration of the race.

Relay teams

Hardmoors 60 Relay Teams must include a maximum of 4 runners and a minimum of 2 runners. It is up to the Relay Team to decide how far each team member runs, but at least one team member must run through every checkpoint. Relay teams equipment requirements will differ from the standard race entry (see below). Entry fee for Relay Teams is £102.

Cancellation & Refunds

If you need to cancel your race for whatever reason we offer the following options:     

  • You may transfer your place to another runner up to 3 weeks prior to the event. This is done yourself via the SI entries system. NB: This option is only available once the race is full and some of the ultras do not fill up. Also, there may not be another runner who is trained up, so bear this in mind.
  • You may transfer your place to the following year’s event. Please email us to let us know if you wish this to happen.  You may only transfer once and will need to pay any price increase
  • You may not transfer to another race within the same year
  • All entries close 3 weeks prior to the event because we need to order t shirts, medals and trophies in advance. Also, we need to give your medical information to our medical officer.

Refund protection is offered to participants during the online check out process, allowing you to opt-in to an enhanced set of cancellation and refund terms and conditions. If chosen, refund protection allows you to claim a 100% refund (including all extra fees and charges) if you are unable to attend the event due to certain unforeseen circumstances. You can claim a refund right up to the time of the event commencing. You will be charged an extra 8.5% on top of your normal payment.

If Hardmoors Ltd cancels a race

We endeavour to ensure all our events go ahead. If bad weather is forecast, we take advice from Mountain Rescue and the Police and take measures to ensure participant safety. However, in the rare event of extreme bad weather or other “Force Majeure” such as a global virus, we take advice from the Government and if despite our safety measures we are advised to cancel we will offer, where appropriate:

  • Transfer to a new date
  • Transfer to the next year’s event
  • Voucher towards an event
